Riviere Custom Coffee Tables
Frequently Asked Questions
Handmade coffee tables, crafted to order by a single maker in the Erewash Valley.
Design &
Customisation
From the timber and natural edge to the legs and finishing details.
What can I customise in my coffee table?
You can choose the dimensions, timber, edge style, resin details, leg design, and finish. I make each table to order, so I refine the proportions around your room and the slab I select for you.
How do I choose the right size?
Tell me the approximate size you have in mind and how you plan to use the table. I help refine the proportions, especially when working with natural live-edge slabs whose contours influence the final measurements.
Which timbers are available?
I work with oak, American black walnut, cherry, and yew, subject to availability. Walnut and yew can be limited, so I discuss options with you before finalising the design.
Can I choose the exact slab?
Yes. I share timber-selection photographs and talk through grain, colour, and natural features. The availability of specific slabs shapes the final choice.
Do you offer resin details?
Yes. Options include black epoxy, my Ocean Wave oak-and-resin design, and the Coffee Culture table with suspended coffee beans. Resin details are planned around the slab’s shape and grain.
What leg styles do you offer?
I fit high-quality, powder-coated steel legs made by UK fabricators. I choose the leg design with you so it suits the table’s proportions and the character of the top.
Is the finish food-safe?
Yes. I use premium hardwax oil — food-safe, water-resistant, and repairable without sanding the entire surface.
Quotes &
Ordering
A personal conversation about your space, your ideas and your table.
How do quotes work?
I prepare a personalised quote based on your dimensions, timber choice, and design details. Delivery is included.
What information should I send when requesting a quote?
Share your preferred size, timber, design ideas, and delivery location. A brief description of your room is helpful even if measurements aren’t final.
What happens after I enquire?
You speak directly with me. I refine the design, select timber, send photographs, and provide progress updates. As the table nears completion, I agree an estimated delivery date with you.
Craftsmanship &
Process
One maker, one piece at a time, with the timber’s character at the centre.
How is each table made?
I build each piece one at a time — selecting timber, flattening and shaping the slab, adding structural details, and applying a hand-buffed finish.
How do you account for wood movement?
Natural wood responds to its surroundings. I use stable joinery, reinforcement where needed, and movement-allowing fixings to ensure long-term stability.
Do live edges change over time?
Live-edge timber is a natural material, so it can subtly respond to changes in temperature and humidity in your home. On rare occasions, this movement may lead to small cracks or checks forming. This isn’t a sign of a fault — it’s simply the wood behaving naturally.
If it ever happens, it can usually be repaired with ease as part of your lifetime guarantee, or you may choose to leave it as part of the table’s evolving character.
Many people feel these tiny changes add to the authenticity and charm of genuine live-edge furniture.
Care &
Aftercare
Simple everyday care and advice when your table needs attention.
How should I care for my table?
Wipe spills promptly, avoid standing water, use protection under hot items, and clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Dry the surface afterwards.
Can the finish be repaired?
Yes. Hardwax oil allows local repairs without sanding the entire top. Contact me before attempting any sanding.
Delivery &
Guarantee
Specialist furniture delivery and support from the person who made your table.
Is delivery included?
Yes. Delivery costs are included in your personalised quote. I use specialist furniture couriers.
How does delivery work?
I confirm availability for your address when you enquire. As your order nears completion, I agree an estimated delivery date with you.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes — every table comes with a lifetime guarantee. My joinery, fixings, and finish are chosen for lasting use.
