I make every Oak Live Edge Coffee Table myself in my workshop on the Nottinghamshire–Derbyshire border. Each piece begins with a single slab of sustainably sourced English or European oak, selected for its grain, character and long-term stability. I shape, sand and finish the table individually, keeping the natural warmth of the wood and a refined live edge that preserves the tree’s original contours.

This table is made to order, built around your room and the slab we choose together. You decide the proportions and style, and I guide you through each choice. Before the build begins, I share timber-selection photographs so you can see the exact piece of oak your table will be made from.
I design each table around the timber you choose and the space it will occupy. The result is a solid-wood centrepiece with natural presence, balanced proportions and details shaped specifically for your home.
Finding the Right Oak Slab for Your Space
I look for an oak slab close to your preferred dimensions, then plan the finished table around the timber’s usable shape. Sharing a target size gives me a starting point while leaving room for the natural edge.
Choosing a Length, Width and Thickness
A typical table is around 1 m by 40 cm, but proportions depend on your room. You can measure the space in front of your sofa and tell me how much clear floor area you want around the table. Include your preferred thickness as well; I’ll consider it alongside the slab’s size and the finished look you want.
How Slab Availability Influences Your Options
Solid slabs vary in width along their length, and their edges do not follow a fixed line. When I find suitable oak, I send photographs so you can judge its contours and grain against your preferred measurements. We then discuss how the slab’s shape affects the final outline before you commit to it.

Natural Edges, Grain and Character
The live edge follows the oak’s own contours, forming part of the design. Grain direction, knots and natural features help me decide how to orient the slab and where its strongest details will sit. I show you photographs of suitable timber before moving ahead with the build.
Your Choice of Style, Finish and Steel Legs
You can choose a clean natural-wood design or ask about black epoxy detailing for contrast. I finish the oak with multiple hand-buffed coats of premium hardwax oil, which enhances the grain while leaving a durable, easy-to-maintain surface.
For the base, I fit high-quality powder-coated steel legs made by UK fabricators and help you choose a shape that suits the top.

How I Build Your Table
Your table is built one at a time, with every decision about the wood carried through into its construction. You work directly with me — the person selecting, shaping and finishing the timber.
From Timber Selection to Progress Updates
I source oak from trusted sawmills and timber yards and share photographs of potential slabs with you. Once the timber and design are agreed, I prepare, flatten, shape and sand the top. You receive progress updates throughout the build, and we plan delivery as the order approaches completion.
Careful Construction and a Repairable Finish
I use stable joinery and add reinforcement where the piece needs it. The steel legs are fitted with movement-allowing hardware so the wood can expand and contract naturally.
Multiple hand-buffed coats of premium hardwax oil provide a food-safe, water-resistant finish. If a small area becomes worn, it can be repaired without sanding the entire tabletop.
