A walnut live-edge coffee table brings the natural shape of the timber into your living room. I make each table to order from a single slab of American Black Walnut, chosen for its deep chocolate to soft amber tones and its long-term stability. Every commission is built one at a time in my workshop on the Nottinghamshire–Derbyshire border, where you work directly with the maker selecting, shaping and finishing your table.

You tell me the size you have in mind, then see photographs of suitable walnut slabs before the design takes shape. The slab’s width, grain and natural contours help determine the finished proportions, ensuring your table feels balanced in your space and true to the timber we select together.
Each table is constructed with careful joinery, movement-allowing fixings and a hand-buffed hardwax-oil finish. The result is a practical centrepiece with grain, edges and character that belong to that piece of wood alone.

Your walnut live-edge coffee table is designed around both your room and the slab chosen for it. I help you settle on proportions that leave useful space around your furniture while giving the timber’s natural shape room to show.
A typical starting point is around 1 m by 40 cm, but the final dimensions depend on your room and the slab’s usable width. You can measure the space in front of your sofa and tell me how much clear floor area you prefer; I then guide you through the options that suit your layout.
Choosing Dimensions, Natural Edges and Steel Legs
With a solid slab, its available width and changing edge line influence the exact measurements. We discuss those details together before settling the design.
You can also choose the leg style. I use high-quality, powder-coated steel legs from UK fabricators and position them in relation to the slab’s shape so the finished table feels balanced in your room. If you prefer contrast, we can discuss subtle black-epoxy detailing alongside the natural walnut.

Timber Availability and Delivery Planning
American Black Walnut availability varies, so the slabs on hand shape the choices I can offer at the time of your enquiry. I source timber from trusted sawmills and timber yards and share slab photographs as part of the design conversation.
After the design is agreed, I prepare, flatten, shape and sand the timber. I add reinforcement where needed, fit the legs and apply multiple hand-buffed coats of premium hardwax oil. You receive progress updates throughout the build, and we plan delivery together as your table approaches completion.

Crafted for Everyday Use and Lasting Character
Solid wood responds to changes in its surroundings, so its fixings need to give it room to move. I use stable joinery and attach the steel legs with movement-allowing hardware chosen for the particular slab and design.
The hardwax-oil finish is food-safe, water-resistant and repairable without sanding the entire surface. If a small area becomes worn, it can be refreshed in place.
Every table comes with my lifetime structural guarantee.
