Riviere Custom Coffee Tables
What Makes a Riviere Custom Coffee Table Different
A Riviere table isn’t a product pulled from a warehouse. It’s a one‑off piece of craftsmanship, designed, shaped, and finished by hand in the Erewash Valley. Every table begins as a raw slab of timber with its own story, and ends as a functional piece of art built to last a lifetime.
This page explains what sets my work apart — not in marketing language, but in the practical, honest details that matter when you’re investing in a handmade piece.
01
Every Table Starts With Exceptional Timber
I work exclusively with premium hardwoods – Walnut, Oak, Ash, and other characterful British and North American species. No two pieces of timber behave the same. Understanding how a slab will move, settle, and age is part of the craft – and it’s why every table is built individually, not batch‑produced.
I select each slab for:
- 01. Stability
- 02. Grain pattern
- 03. Colour consistency
- 04. Natural character
- 05. Long‑term durability
02
Designed Around Your Home, Not a Catalogue
Your table is made to order, which means the dimensions, timber, style, finish, and leg design are all chosen specifically for your space. Instead of relying on standard sizes, I guide you through each decision so the final piece feels visually balanced, practical to use, and perfectly proportioned for your home.
03
Built With Traditional Joinery and Modern Precision
Each table is built using a blend of traditional joinery, precision machinery, and hand tools for the final shaping and refinement. This hybrid approach gives you the accuracy of modern tools with the warmth and character that only hand‐finished craftsmanship can achieve.
04
A Durable, Natural Finish Designed for Everyday Living
Your table is protected with a premium hard wax oil system that enhances the grain while standing up to daily use. The finish is food‐safe, water‐resistant, easy to maintain, and repairable without sanding the entire surface – a practical, long‐lasting choice that keeps the
table looking beautiful.
05
Built for Longevity With Structural Integrity in Mind
Longevity is built into every stage of the process. Stable joinery, correct grain orientation, movement‐allowing fixings, high‐quality steel legs, and durable finishes all work together to ensure your table stays stable for decades. Wood is a natural material – it moves, breathes, and changes with the seasons and my job is to build in a way that respects that movement.
06
A Personal, Transparent, Maker‐Led Process
When you commission a Riviere table, you work directly with the person who selects the timber, builds the piece, and signs their name to it. Throughout the build, I keep you updated with timber selection photos, progress updates, and delivery planning. Many clients say this collaborative process is one of the most enjoyable parts of commissioning a handmade piece.
A Lifetime Guarantee
Every Riviere table comes with a lifetime structural guarantee. If anything ever goes wrong
with the craftsmanship, I fix it.
That’s the confidence that comes from building things properly.
A Piece With a Story
A handmade table isn’t just furniture – it’s a piece with character, history, and intention. It’s something you’ll use every day, gather around, and eventually pass on.
That’s what makes a Riviere table different.
